3 Reasons why you need to wash your brushes!

Did you know that over 90 percent of makeup brushes contain deadly bacteria?  Gross! It is important to have clean brushes, but do we clean our brushes enough?

The answer is: probably not!

You should deep clean your brushes & sponges once a week! Here are a couple of reasons why:

1. Product Build Up – If you use a brush or sponge for any liquid like foundation or concealer, it will slowly build up in the bristles and sponge. Over time, it will cause uneven application. Even the best makeup can become streaky and patchy when applying with dirty brushes.

2. Bacteria – Your brushes aren’t only picking up makeup.  They are picking up sebum and dead skin? If you keep rubbing in that mixture of old makeup and oil and dead skin, you have an effective recipe for acne!

3. Brushes Will Last Longer – By keeping your brushes and sponges clean, you are ensuring a long life.  They will also maintain their quality and softness. Don’t forget to condition them, too.

It is always a good idea to wash your brushes or sponges after sharing them with someone. As a professional makeup artist, I make sure that the same brush does not touch two peoples’ faces without cleaning and sanitizing them in between. Here is to beautiful makeup application and clean brushes with the new year!
